Ed Licitra joined the firm in February 1997 after working for large and small firms in South Florida. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his skill in drafting coherent, persuasive, well-researched legal arguments. He has been the primary author of more than sixty briefs in appeals to all five of Florida's District Courts of Appeal, its Supreme Court, and the Federal Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Before attending law school, Mr. Licitra worked for 15 years as an educator, teaching English as a Second Language at several American universities and a private institute in Cartagena, Colombia. During that time he taught – and learned from – students from virtually all parts of Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia, many of whom were already accomplished professionals, artists, and businesspeople in their own right. These experiences gave him a rare opportunity to interact with people whose worldviews and approaches to problem-solving could be vastly different from what we usually see within American culture. It also gave him daily practice in structuring the presentation of information and tailoring it to a very particular audience – skills he finds extremely valuable today as an attorney whose job it is to inform judges with different backgrounds and personalities on points of law relevant to his clients' interests.
Mr. Licitra received his B.A., with high honors, and M.A. in English from Michigan State University, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and received his J.D., with honors, from the University of Florida College of Law. At Florida, he was one of a select few invited to join the Law Review based on their performance in an extracurricular legal writing competition. Both his Case Comment and his Note were chosen as the outstanding student project of their kind of the semester, and both were published in the Law Review: Case Comment, Evidence:"General Acceptance" and the Admissibility of Scientific Testimony, 41 U. Fla. L. Rev. 2, 399-408, Spring 1989; and Note, When Johnny Gets Your Gun: Felony Firearm Storage in Florida, 42 U. Fla. L. Rev. 3, 495-530, July 1990.
Mr. Licitra is admitted to practice in all Florida state courts, as well as the federal Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeal and the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. He is fluent in Spanish, and is rated “AV” by Martindale Hubbell. |
